What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is manual therapy that addresses all systems of the body in order to optimize a person’s best health. It understands the relationship between the structure and function of the body and how all aspects must work together to feel well, heal from injury and prevent disease.
Osteopathy is deeply rooted in assessment. The goal of the assessment is to discover underlying causes of pain or dysfunction and remove obstacles that prevent the body from healing itself.
There are many aspects involved, depending on the patient’s particular needs and health history, but key pillars of an osteopathic session are assessing and treating:

-
The musculoskeletal system: Are the bones, joints and soft tissue aligned and functioning?
-
The visceral system: Are the organs expressing health and vitality?
-
The craniosacral mechanism: Are all the components of the central nervous system working together in harmony?
Osteopathic care can benefit all stages of life; from infancy, through to adults in advanced years.
Treatment can support individuals experiencing complaints including, but not limited to:
-
Acute and persistent pain
-
Concussion symptoms
-
Headaches/migraines
-
Digestive issues
-
Fertility concerns
-
Menstrual pain/dysfunction
-
Prenatal/postnatal
-
Babies and Children
Overtime, many osteopathic techniques have been adopted by other manual therapy fields such as physiotherapy, chiropractic and massage therapy.
